Replacing elements

The Replace option allows you to control how many images or text elements a customer can add to their design. Elements with the same replace name will automatically replace each other, ensuring customers only keep one at a time.

How Replace Works

When a customer adds a new element with a replace name, it automatically replaces any existing element with the same replace name. This is useful for:

  • Design categories where only one design should be active
  • Template placeholders that should be swapped out
  • Logo positions that accept only one logo at a time
  • Controlling the number of uploaded images or text elements

Step 1: Define a Replace Name

  1. Navigate to Products in Wordpress Dashboard
  2. Open your product in the Product Builder.
  3. Select the element (image or text) you want to control.
  4. Enter a **unique replace **value in the element settings.
  • This replace value **ensures that whenever a new element with the same name is added, it will **replace the existing one.

2. Enable Replace for Graphics Category

Go to:

  1. Graphics in Chamevo Dashboard
  • Find your graphics category
  1. Click the settings icon (three horizontal lines)

3. Configure Replace Settings

In the Graphic Options panel, configure the replace behavior.

  1. Toggle Enable Options on
  • Navigate to the General tab
  1. Find the Replace field and enter a replace name (e.g., "replace")
  2. Toggle Replace In All Views on if you want replacement across all views
  3. Click Save Changes

Replace Field: Enter a unique name that identifies which elements should replace each other. All graphics with the same replace name will replace each other when added.

Replace In All Views: When enabled, adding a new graphic replaces the same element across all views in the product designer. Useful for multi-sided products like t-shirts.

4. Global Replace Settings

For additional control over replace behavior, configure global settings.

Go to:

  1. Settings in WordPress Dashboard
  2. Advanced tab
  3. **Toggle **Settings you wish

Replacement Settings:

  • Replace Colors In Color Group – Automatically uses the colors of newly added elements within a color group, replacing existing ones
  • Apply Fill When Replacing – Transfers the fill color of the replaced element to the new one during replacement
  • Apply Size When Replacing – Transfers the size of the replaced element to the new one during replacement

These settings provide extra flexibility for handling replace behavior in complex product setups.

Use Cases

Design Categories Allow customers to add only one design from each category by giving all designs in that category the same replace name.

Template Placeholders Create placeholder graphics that are automatically replaced when customers add their own designs.

Logo Positions Set up designated logo spots where only one logo can exist at a time.

Multi-View Consistency With "Replace In All Views" enabled, updating a logo on the front of a shirt automatically updates it on the back.

Summary

  • Replace prevents multiple elements with the same replace name from existing simultaneously
  • Set replace names in Product Builder for individual elements (images or text)
  • Set replace names in Graphic Options for entire graphics categories
  • Enable Replace In All Views for multi-sided products
  • Configure global replace settings in Settings → Advanced for additional control
  • Useful for design templates, logo positions, category restrictions, and controlling uploaded content
